For a truly exhilarating and exclusive travel adventure in 2017, look to Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda and the newly constructed Bisate Lodge—perfectly situated for gorilla trekking. Tucked into the far northwestern corner of the tiny central African country, Volcanoes offers the world’s finest gorilla treks while Bisate Lodge provides luxury accommodations in the midst of breathtaking African landscape.
Landlocked in central Africa, Rwanda, or the “Land of a Thousand Hills,” is located in one of the continent’s most biodiverse regions, Albertine Rift, where visitors will find acres of rainforest amid a stunning volcanic backdrop—home to the celebrated and iconic mountain gorilla.

Just a short drive from the park, guests of the brand new Bisate Lodge (opening June 2017) can continue their gorilla experience through presentations from the experts covering topics such as genetics, diet, behavior and endangered status, as well as why the reasons why mountain gorillas do not survive in captivity.
The lodge, designed sustainably as the product of an ecotourism partnership, is an architectural wonder located in a natural amphitheatre of eroded volcanic cone. Bisate, meaning “pieces” in Kinyarwanda, refers to the fragmentation of the cone itself, which offers sweeping views of nearby volcanoes Bisoke and Karisimbi. Intimate in feel yet modern in design and adhering to environmental principles that reflect Rwandan culture, the Lodge contains six en-suite villas to accommodate only 12 guests in total on the property. Each villa includes a bedroom, bathroom and reception space, fireplace and private deck featuring exclusive views of breathtaking and rare landscape; while the main lodge contains a restaurant, bar and shared guest spaces.
Guests will be welcomed by the lodge’s interiors, designed around elements such as natural textures, textiles and recycled glass, and will be treated to delights from Rwandan coffee to local African cuisine.
