We have some exciting Tribù news: our tribe has grown! On September 25, Tribu Founder Marni Granston and her family welcomed a new baby girl: Zarai Jolie Granston. Born in La Jolla, California, Zarai has a bright travel future ahead and we can’t wait to introduce her to some of our favorite destinations across the globe.
In the meantime, we thought we’d take this opportunity to tell you about some of our top exotic travel destinations that are best for multi-generational travel, or for those who want to bring the whole family along.
Here are six of our top recommendations for the family travelers in our tribe…
Fiji
It’s not just an island paradise for adults. Head to Fiji’s private Kokomo Island, where proprietor Lang Walker has developed his personal vision for island travel, “straight from the hearts of the Walker family.”
Here, families can enjoy excursions, tennis, basketball, beach cricket and more. Or for parents who would like to explore the island solo, Kokomo offers acomplimentary nanny service for children three and under; a supervised Kaji Kids Club from 9 am to 9 pm; and programming specifically geared for older children and teens. A full array of kid-friendly activities from treasure hunting to movie nights, nature walks and coral paintings keeps little ones busy so parents can enjoy watersports, the island’s renowned dining venues, poolside lounging and more.
Kenya
Look no further than Kenya’s Ol Jogi, a private bush retreat for an African getaway with an award-winning conservation platform that is geared toward nature enthusiasts of all ages. The ranch is nestled within a surrounding rock outcropping, providing the perfect backdrop for families who wish to explore the area via game drive, nature walk or on horseback. On-site activities geared toward families include tennis, all terrain vehicles, village visits, yoga and more. Accommodating from 4 to 25 guests, Ol Jogi is one of Africa’s most exclusive sole-use experiences in Africa.
New Zealand
A private New Zealand enclave tucked in the Southern Waikato region of North Island on the short of Lake Taupo, Huka Lodge is a luxury spot from which to explore the breathtaking local landscape. Families are welcome here, with private and homey accommodations, childcare on site, pool and tennis, miniature golf and more. Families with older children and teens will enjoy the abundant adventure activities from mountain biking to jet boating, paragliding and more.
South Africa
Explore South Africa with the entire family at the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve. Here, even large families can enjoy guided nature walks, horse riding, whale watching and shark spotting, while maintaining a home base at one of the property’s 4- and 6-bedroom villas. The larger villas can accommodate up to 12 adults, including two master suites and four en-suite bedrooms. The reserve was first envisioned by the Lutzeyer family from roots as a small farm, and today welcomes travelers of all ages to enjoy the wildlife, marine life, food and wine of South Africa, all with the comforts of home.
The Galapagos Islands
With some of the greatest wildlife variety in the world, the Galapagos Islands welcome families who are curious to explore the natural world by sea. For large families looking to explore together, the exclusive M/Y Grace yacht provides private accommodations on board for 18 guests — a perfect setting from which to embark on amazing adventures off the coast of South America. A variety of suites and rooms, some of which feature brand new design as of October 2017, are equipped to host a large family group, while shared social spaces on the ship offer places to relax, catch up, and enjoy world-class dining al fresco after a day at sea.
Italy
Settle in to Monteverdi with the whole family for a rare boutique hotel experience in Tuscany. Set atop a hilltop village without paved roads or sidewalks, Monteverdi offers private villas with up to six bedrooms that can accommodate multiple family generations. The private Villa Muri Antichi is a 6-bed, 6.5 bath abode meticulously restored and designed using local marble and wood. Here, families will enjoy the large gourmet kitchen with modern appliances, casual dining room with wood-burning fireplace and al-fresco dining on the property. The villa’s concierge service can arrange dinner reservations, hikes, wine tastings and more for each family’s desired experience exploring the Tuscan landscape.
